Cute bike shop right next to the passenger ferry to Washington Island. Owner was very nice and helpful. Gave us a map and some tips on where to go- my mother especially appreciated this since she is not a big biker and he was able to tell us the scenic yet flattest routes. Reasonable price- $5 an hour but he subtracted the ferry riding time (20 minutes each way). The bikes were in good condition, shifted easily, and the seats were comfortable. The road bikes had expandable baskets on the back. There was no extra fee to take the bike over the ferry and it was nice being able to just ride off and get going.
Cool little shop right across from the passenger ferry, run by a very nice guy. The shop is an old converted cottage with great atmosphere. He is very helpful with information on places to see and has maps for your ride. The shop and owner deserve 5 stars, we gave 4 stars because he has a diverse collection of new and old bikes, but lacks the fat tire comfortable cruising style bikes popular with many people. However his selection did work out great for us since my wife is only 4'8" and he had a 24" bike that fit her that other places don't usually have.
When making the trip to Gills Rock to visit the great little shops, eat at the Shoreline restaurant or just enjoy the view, do yourself a favor and do NOT overlook the wonderful experience of visiting The Bike Shop! So much more than a"Bike Shop"...this place is a Door County treasure full of historical gems, a wealth of knowledge and an amazing cup of coffee. If we hadn't had to be elsewhere, we could have stayed all day enjoying the hospitality and stories of Door County and Wisconsin's rich Native American history.
